Day 7
 May 8, 2001

Back to Yellowstone again today. Decided it might take 4 days to see this world. It's a big place, 60 miles across and over 100 miles long.
You could put some states inside this park. We are surprised how much of it burnt in 1988. It is just now starting to come back. The new trees are 4-6 ft now.

Today we did Madison to Norris then to Canyon Village and on to Fishing Bridge. Got to see our first grizzly bear from a half mile away. Got him on movie but too far for camera.
We got started about 9am and it was after 5pm getting back.

Prilly's trying to get closer but she is not looking at the one behind her.

Excuse ME !

Ok now, I am eye to eye with this hairy beast. Ok, no more buffalo.

I lied ! Got to tell you this neat thing we watched. The buffalo were fording the river with their calves. One of the calves started getting washed down stream and the mother had to swim down and recue it. It was real cool to watch.

Once all were safe across, all the calves got a snack. It was a real delight to witness. We got a movie of the whole thing.

We saw lots more guysers, bubbling pools, and hot springs. This whole area looks like it could blow at any time.

Gibbon Falls: 84 feet

This little chipmunk wanted a piece of my pretzel. How can you say no to that face.

Steamboat Geyser

How fast these guys must grow back their horns. They only mate in the fall. That's when they are the horniest in more than one way.

This was a hot area that we explored.

The ground is getting a bit warm here.

There's Prilly yelling at me again.

Norris Geyser Basin

Yellowstone Grand Canyon

Yellowstone Canyon Lower Falls

Yellowstone Canyon Upper Falls

Heading southeast to Yellowstone Lake we stopped at Sulphur Caldron and Mud Volcano.

Last but not least.
Yellowstone Lake iced over.

The temp got up to 67 here in town and up to about 55 in the high country. All in all another great sunny day to visit this great place.
Tomorrow who knows what lies ahead. How does it get any better than this ?
We'll see you tomorrow....
